FETAC – NCVA Soccer Module

Level 4 - D10036

Aim:

The module is designed to assist the learner under the guidance of a coach, parent or teacher introduce children (aged 6-9 years) to fun soccer games and FUNdamental movement skills in a well-structured, stimulating and safe environment.

Objectives:

Candidates who successfully complete this module will have the ability to:

  • Assist in the coaching of players in a fun, safe and friendly environment.
  • Assist in the planning, organising and implementing a FUN coaching session.
  • Organising a Mini-Soccer Tournament.
  • Implement the FAI’s Good Practice Guidelines.
  • Implement basic movement and soccer techniques in FUN game activities.
  • Implement the game of Futsal.

Entry Requirements:

Candidates must have completed their Junior Certificate or equivalent qualification.

Candidates will be asked to abide by the Code of Ethics/Conduct in soccer and the Code of Ethics and Good Practice for children’s sport in Ireland.         

Duration/Format:

8 contact hours – All courses are subject to a minimum of 16 participants enrolling with the course coordinator. If the required number of participants is not achieved prior to the course start date then the course may be cancelled / deferred. 

The Module teacher / tutor must complete a Football Association of Ireland Kick Start 1 and Kick Start 2 Coaching Certificate. If the            teacher does not hold the FAI qualifications then they cannot deliver the module. 

Providers wishing to offer this module must obtain prior approval from the Football Association of Ireland. Providers should apply for approval using the approval form at the end of this module descriptor. 

The completed Approval Form must be available for inspection by the External Examiner.

Assessment:

Candidates must attend and complete all modules of course to achieve the FAI’s Soccer Leaders Award.

Skills Demonstration:

Candidates plan and deliver four FUNdamental coaching sessions from the activity cards before the commencement of the mini-soccer tournament.

Learner Record:

Candidates keep a record of their year’s course contact time, note taking, coaching practice, assisting at four coaching sessions for FUNdamental phase (6-9 year old players).

The completed learner record will allow the student to display the skills of planning, record-keeping for the development and implementation of a mini-tournament using futsal or mini-soccer.

Certification:

Upon successful completion of the module learners will receive an FAI “Soccer Leaders” certificate.

Course Fee and Development Manual (Fundamental Phase):

·        The course fee is €320 for 16 students.

·        Each student after that will cost €15 per student.

FAI Transition Year (TY) Course in Beaumont School

Sharon Boyle, FAI RDO organised a transition course for students from Our Lady of Mercy School, Beaumont. Sharon is a past pupil of the school and was delighted to co-ordinate the course for the students.

The course was held over 2 days with full attendance from all participates. 2 FAI tutors were put through their paces as they ran the course. As part of their course work the students have to organise a Blitz. This event will be taking place on the 21 February for Secondary Schools all round the area.
