Mullingar Community College 2-1 Wilson’s Hospital School, Multyfarnham
A difficult season for both Mullingar and Wilson’s drew to a close with a final playoff. The match was played in perfect conditions at Mullingar Athletic AFC fine facility at Gainstown, Mullingar on Friday 26 March 2010.
This was the second encounter between the teams in the West Leinster Division 2 league.
Wilson’s were easy winners early in the season but Mullingar CC had upped their game throughout the rest of the campaign. So a closely fought tie was always likely.
Both sides made strident efforts in the first half but Mullingar were the better team. They proved it with their first goal. Adam Hogan beat the Wilson’s defence and struck home after 20 minutes.
Mullingar CC made it 2 nil after 37 minutes. A corner found the head of Emmanuel Nwokeiwie and he made no mistake it putting it past Wilson’s Andy Dolan.
The second half looked more promising for the Multyfarnham men. Philip Sikazwa replaced Peregrine McCall and Wilson’s kept the pressure up. They were rewarded when the mercurial Sean McCarthy struck a beautiful short range volley home at 80 minutes.
This was not enough though and Mullingar CC held on for a well deserved 2 – 1 win.
