Dear Soccer Mentor,

Welcome back to Season 2010-2011.

Firstly, to review last season, congratulations to all competition winners & participants & particular congratulations to Colaiste de hIde, Tallaght & St. Mary’s Diocesan School, Drogheda who were crowned Umbro All-Ireland Senior ‘B’ Cup Champions & Umbro All-Ireland Junior Cup Champions respectively last season.

The biggest change this season is an administrative one. In an effort to streamline the affiliation & competition entry process & to avoid duplication of registered postage & issuing of cheques, affiliation & competition entry for the Boys & Girls Section has been combined.

Affiliation & competition entry forms are to be returned to me at the address above, from where Girls Section competition entry will be forwarded to Paul Howard, Girls Section Secretary. This change is designed to aid all schools involved, as well as streamlining the administration of entries at our end.

We are well aware of the ongoing challenges that schools face in the current climate, but we will be continuing to offer the wide range of competitions as usual. To this end, a number of changes & modifications introduced last season will continue. These include;

Ü Regionalisation of the first three rounds of all cup competitions, to cut down on travel time; (The more regional teams involved the better!)

Ü            Capping of the maximum fee that a school pays to the Branch, in an effort to encourage participation &

Ü The division of the Metropolitan League into three divisions in an effort to cut down on the number of play-off matches.

All changes are detailed inside the booklet. Please read all changes carefully.

As usual, please take note of all deadlines – dates for affiliation & competition entry, panel registration, play by dates for cup competitions etc. It is your responsibility to be aware of the applicable dates.

Finally, we are pleased to see the continuation of our sponsorship deal with Umbro, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sports gear, as well as the ongoing implementation of the FAI/FAI Schools Development Plan.

As usual, the closing line is to ensure that you read everything enclosed carefully & ensure that all mentors involved in soccer in the school do the same. Remember, it is your responsibility to familiarise yourself with the FAI Schools organisation & its rules & regulations. Best of luck for the season ahead,

Yours in Sport,
